A few weeks ago we got wind of Universum: War Front, a sci-fi RTS on Kickstarter that was being developed by one single man, Cyril Megem, working under the title of StarworksArt Studio. The game has come a long way since then and has cleared it’s Kickstarter goal with flying colors.
Despite the generic starcraft-type sci-fi setting, it’s really impressive that one person has managed to create everything you see in Universum. I mean, I could barely dress myself this morning, much less do all the art, modeling, animation, map design, and sounds for my own video game. But I guess that’s why I don’t code games, right?
Universum: War Front hopes to combine traditional sci-fi RTS play with a few MMO elements such as a persistent galaxy. You will also be able to drop into any of your units, at any time, and take direct FPS control of them on the ground during battles.
As of this writing, Universum has raised $25k of it’s original $20k goal, with stretch goals at $25k, $50k, and $75k, and an alpha version due by December of next year.
We’ll keep our eye on this one going forward, you can be sure of that.
